Dec 25, Tiara rated it it was ok Shelves: imaginative-retelling , young-adult. This was my face during this whole thing starting from the very first lines: I know many people enjoyed this, but I'm not sure this story is for me.
It managed to do every single thing I hate about some YA novels, but the premise was interesting, which is about its only saving grace right now with me. I'm putting the rest of these books novellas really on the bottom of my TBR pile where I will wait for the day I feel compelled to continue this story.
Hopefully later parts will make me forg This was my face during this whole thing starting from the very first lines: I know many people enjoyed this, but I'm not sure this story is for me. Hopefully later parts will make me forgive this part because it has potential, but this was not it for me. View 2 comments. May 17, Delta rated it really liked it Shelves: vampires , fantasy , young-adult , nook , fairy-tale. Blood and Snow is a unique blending of the Snow White fairy tale and a vampire romance I am in for the next one!
The series isn't organized in GR. It was apparently first published as a serial, parts of which have been compiled into books or seasons. Book 1 is a compilation of Volumes 1 through 8. I need to find a reading order or guide But after finishing the first one, I was sorely disappointed.
It seems like in a lot of these books you either get a whiny, Mary Sue or an over-the-top bitch. A girl can have a rough edge without being a mean girl and she can also have insecurities without being a clueless little damsel Then we have her seven male best friends who are all super into her and would do anything for her. And the ending was pretty abrupt. Apr 18, Eugene Gorodinsky rated it did not like it Recommends it for: my worst enemies, masochists, the blind.
Shelves: mental-torture , dropped. If you enjoy the sound of nails scratching the blackboard you have a chance at reading more than ten pages of this book. Seeing as how I'm not a fan of books grating on my nerves I was unable to pass the challenge. If I were to pinpoint the main problem, it would probably be the protagonist being called Snow White in a non-fairytale setting. I wouldn't mind if that was her nickname, however, ten pages into the story and I still don't know what to call the girl apart from the obvious.
Dec 08, Victoria rated it did not like it Shelves: dnf , vampires. I was so confused. There's the mc, her female best friend, her 7 male best friends and the new boy in school. At no point did I know who was who. I wasn't really feeling the story either but I'm not sure if that was because it wasn't great writing or if I was just too confused. I'm sure some people would be less confused and enjoy it but it's not for me.
You make choices, and you go along the story I even died once! Never eat the apple, Snow White! However, the book was juvenile and needed some editing. Also, who names a character Professor Pops? And a man that adopts seven boys? A single man? Someone is going to look into that Fun to do to see what the choices lead to, but it was too short and too strange to be something I would continue reading without the game.
The game made the book readable, and not vice versa. Oct 30, Coco. Dnf I'm not liking the writing. Salem, Massachusetts is a place where magic is expected to happen. But the uniquely named Snow White never imagines that such things will happen to her.
Sure, she's constantly reminded of her fairy tale name, and it doesn't help that she has seven best guy friends. Her sixteenth birthday is rapidly approaching, and her weird dreams of being bitten by a vampire and eating a heart are only dreams It's mentally Salem, Massachusetts is a place where magic is expected to happen. It's mentally exhausting. In a nutshell, this book kept my attention but not without a slew of bad writing and young adult cliches.
Things such as: An instant blossoming love. A plain character with a hot friend who is inexplicably still their friend. A random vampire appears! A character with only one parent A girl who doesn't realize that boys are attracted to her until way late in the game -There's also a few things within the writing that made me dislike this story. For instance, if I read about the scent of peppermint coming from a tea, or a boy, or anything one more time, I would have flipped my table.
There was also way more talk about how the characters looked or dressed as opposed to their personality. It gave the book a shallow, plastic-y vibe to it, and I didn't learn anything about the characters at all. There were also instances of poor word choice, such as keys 'coincidentally' being on the wall marked "keys" and the quote "It's icky, and it makes me feel icky.
I love fairy tales, and I love vampires when their well written. This book leaves a lot to be desired, and doesn't do the town of Salem justice. And yet, in spite all of the novella's shortcomings I still want to read the next one. The first one ends with a cliffhanger, and god damn it I invested that much time in reading it, and I want the whole story. It's for that reason, and that reason only, that this book gets two stars instead of one.
If you like young adult stories or fairy tale retellings, maybe you'll enjoy it. But, at this point in the Blood and Snow series who knows, maybe it gets better?
I wouldn't really recommend it.
Blood and Snow Series
Blood and Snow Series. Every thousand years the Vampire Queen selects a new body, always the fairest in the land, and this time she's chosen Snow White. Snow isn't an ordinary girl. She doesn't know that yet. Book 1.
Blood and Snow
When Snow gets bitten by a Hunter, her life is thrown into a whirlwind of change where instead of worrying about what to eat, she has to fight not to drink the blood of fellow high school students. She becomes a revenant — not quite human, not quite vampire. With the help of an eccentric old Professor, his seven adoptive sons, and her best friend, Snow learns to control her blood craving. Sort of. She also discovers a whole other realm, one filled with fairies, dragons, and magic. Including vampires. I love fairy tales.
