In this work we present a very direct deduction of the equation of motion for a nonrelativistic charge with structure. From it we infer the spectral-distribution function for an electromagnetic field in equilibrium with a gas of charged extended particles, supposing the validity of the fluctuation-dissipation theorem; this distribution is characterized by the nonexistence of the ultraviolet catastrophe. In this context we obtain a clear relation among the structural characteristics of the particles and the correlation function of the electromagnetic field. Additionally we show that the Rayleigh-Jeans law is approximately satisfied for all charge distributions in the low-frequency limit and exactly only for structureless particles.
