LES ARTICULATEURS CHRONOLOGIQUES PDF

The only people who can answer the above question with any degree of certainty are those who speak the language well and have no doubts about their ability, or absolute beginners. The overwhelming majority of language students are somewhere in the middle! The middle is a vast area, it goes from those who know the language quite well but lack confidence, to those who feel they are competent after just a few lessons, to those who have studied the language but are hard put to evaluate their language level. Students who know some French and wish to improve or refresh their language skills fall into the three following categories. Let's start with those who know little of the language but want to travel around French: in this case a short course is a much better option than constantly fiddling with a phrase book. Then there are those who have already visited a French-speaking country, have picked up few words while dealing with locals and perhaps feel the need to go beyond basics.

A phrase like 'un croissant! However, taking a French test and attending a course to acquire a wider and less abrupt vocabulary is a much better way to enhance communication!

Lower level language lessons are full of false beginners, those who started studying but stopped early on in the course, or who completed just one short course and did not continue. Reasons for this are varied, often outside events dictate having to leave a course, but it often happens that students stop because the learning program goes far beyond 'un croissant! This restart option also applies to those who learnt French at school but, as time passed, do not remember much.

Students with a lack of confidence in their language skills often start again from scratch, as do those who do not have good memories for rules and vocabulary; a little repetition is a grand memory aid. On the other side, a French test could help them to gain confidence and not spend the money twice! Many students get to a good point in their language study and then get stuck.

It seems that they no longer make any progress as grammar gets more complex and words get more precise. It is a critical moment that a bit of dogged determination and study can resolve. Once past this point things begin to fall into place.

Another type of 'stuck' students are those who have studied for years and read and write well enough but cannot speak. The stumbling block of speaking in front of other students creates difficulty.

Here again, insistence and practice can help get past this sticky point. Of course, you can self-evaluate your language skills. However, considering that a self evaluation is subjective and thus not as reliable as an evaluation made by a qualified teacher, most students underestimate their knowledge and continue learning at a lower level, which leads to an underchallenge and stagnation of their learning progress.
